Ou est la telecommande? Watching without subtitles but with Friends

It’s probably now my fifth attempt (maybe more) to learn French and with the bad grammar in this blog, my language skills would be listed as a weakness in that standard interview question.  Defo ain’t a strength!!!!

However on my travels there is one show I am multi-lingual in – Friends. Wherever I go, I can always count on Friends duded on some foreign channel.  It is the only TV programme I can watch in different languages without subtitles and laugh at the right times.

So below is my language lesson to anyone trying to understand Friends while watching it in their hotel room: (French, Italian, Spanish and German).

How you doing? – Ca va?  Come va?  ¿Como estas? Wie geht’s?

Pivot! – Pivot! PernoPivoteDrehpunkt!

We were on a break!

Nous étions à la pause !  Eravamo in pausa!  ¡Estabamos en un descanso!  Wir machten eine Pause!

Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?

Chat smelly, puant chat, qu’est-ce qu’ils vous nourrir?

Gatto smelly, gatto puzzolente, che cosa ti stanno alimentando?

Gato apestoso, gato apestoso, ¿qué están alimentando usted?

Stinkende katze, smelly katze, was füttern Sie?

Hi, I’m Chandler, could I be wearing any more clothes.

Not just a hat stand my friend.

Pas seulement un portemanteau mon ami.

Non solo un appendiabiti mio amico

No es sólo un perchero mi amigo

Nicht nur ein Hut stehen mein Freund.

What is Chandler Bing’s job?

Quel est le travail de Chandler Bing?

Qual è il lavoro di Chandler Bing?

¿Cuál es el trabajo de Chandler Bing?

Was ist Chandler Bing Job?

Joey doesn’t share food!

Joey ne partage pas la nourriture!

Joey non condivide il cibo!

Joey no comparte la comida!

Joey nicht Nahrung zu teilen!

You’re over me? When were you under me?

Vous êtes sur moi? Quand vous étiez sous moi?

Sei su di me? Quando eri sotto di me?

Tienes más de mí? Cuando estabas debajo de mí?

Du bist über mich? Wann waren Sie unter mir?

And…

Isn’t that just kick you in the crotch, spit on your neck fantastic –不只是踢你的褲襠,吐在你的脖子太棒了。… I think.

Another important TV related phrase every traveller needs to know:

Ou est la telecommande?

Dove è il telecomando?

¿Dónde está el control remoto?

Wo ist die Fernbedienung? (Where is the remote control?)
Any other language skills to add to my très petit list? Oui I’m also able to watch Con-Air in French without subtitles as I know that film word by word.  I haven’t watched it in a long time but I’m can remember ‘mettre le lapin dans la boîte

…and FYI – Thank God for spellchecker and Google Translate.  As my French is as good as Joeys if any of this is wrong please correct me.  Merci
